RIP Ling Ling

This old bear bit the big one today. I hope it doesn’t rain today

“Ling Ling was 22 years and seven months old, equivalent to about 70 human years, the Ueno Zoo said. It said he was the fifth-oldest known male panda in the world.

Ling Ling had lost his appetite and strength because of his old age, and recently suffered from heart and kidney problems, zoo official Motoyasu Ida said.

Keepers and visitors mourned the panda, which was the zoo’s most popular attraction for more than 15 years. Public broadcaster NHK showed many visitors writing condolence messages, with some brushing away tears.

Ida said an autopsy found Ling Ling died of heart failure.”

Feral Cat

” Feral cat colonies often arise from stray or abandoned unsterilized cats. The cats breed rapidly and have multiple-kit litters.

The conditions lived in by feral cats vary immensely. Some live short, dangerous, unhealthy, desperate lives, in deplorable conditions. Others are welcomed as working cats around factories and farms, and while their lives are not luxurious, some live over 10 years. Cat Action Trust has encountered ferals up to 19 years old; the record age for a feral is 26. Because of the perceived dangers to humans, other species, and the cats themselves, and out of compassion toward the animals, many people, including celebrities such as Bob Barker, campaign to encourage people to spay and neuter their pets and support the humane control of feral cats.

Some animal rights organizations believe that feral cats are wild animals and should not be judged by pet animal standards. These organizations often favor the “trap, neuter and release” approach, as opposed to euthanasia.”

Wire Nest

I made an attempt to clean up my unsightly wire nest at work yesterday, and this was the result. I was hoping for something much more clean looking, but I’ve got an ass load of wires down there. I also found a family of mice living between the surge protectors (that don’t work). I can’t wait ’till all this stuff is wireless.

The mice are now homeless/dead.

I would say this event went alright. It would have gone much better if more people had a size 13 foot and wanted to buy some of my old shoes. Maybe next time.
